Madi van Schalkwyk
Founder and Director

Founder of A StrangerKind (ASK) and director of A Kind Agency, Madi has spent the last seven years working with social spaces invested in promoting empathy, diversity, accessibility and belonging with a focus of using curiosity as the catalyst.

This extended into the training and facilitation of an in-person diversity engagement event for employees from the International Monetary Fund (Washington) and online international events and webinars for global teams such as Google EMEA and Verve.

She has hosted and organised numerous in-person and online ASK events for South Africa and works with a team of over 100 volunteers who she has trained to engage in courageous conversations. This includes the training and launch of the ASK campus initiative at the University of the Free State.

She was invited as a speaker on “Dialogue on an international multi-stakeholder framework for private/digital platforms to promote media and information literacy (policies and programmes)” at UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2021 and have spoken on platforms such as PechaKucha in Cape Town and Johannesburg and podcasts such as Learner Journeys

She has completed training in The Art of Facilitation and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) interventions and attended the International Narrative Therapy and Community Work Conference in Rwanda.

Her passion and experiences extends into Enneagram coaching, narrative therapy and running her own graphic design company for 17 years. These experiences, combined with her South African heritage, allows for a creative exploration of curiosity and conversations when moving into organisational spaces.
